When The Hipsters Debate

[This is a follow up on my last post "When the hipsters contemplate selfishness..." and the discussion it sparked among two of my friends]

Trevor Newman I really liked this kudos

Akira Brewer Well, also, Jade, Objectivism, or its basic concept, is a part of Satanism. Not saying that Ayn Rand was a Satanist, but Satanists have the same philosophy. Also I certainly agree. We all certainly need those days or hours or minutes to be just by ourselves, but, like you said, we can't beat selflessness.

Trevor Newman That depends on the objective of the objectivism. Having an objective is a basic concept in itself. It's more of the person that makes it good or bad. Based on Ayn's philosophy she seems a bit selfish though.

Akira Brewer No, dude. Objectivism is Ayn Rand's Philosophy; that every man and woman should serve only themselves and that that is the only way that society can advance (i.e. the Great Chain). She's just Andrew Ryan man. And it breaks my heart TToTT.

Trevor Newman So Satanists took it from Ayn Rand? I'm lost now.

Akira Brewer Satanists took it from Satan. Ayn Rand just happened to have that part of their philosophy in more detail as her philosophy. Plus I think that Satanism is more recent so yes it is possible that the guy who wrote the Satanist bible was part of the Ayn Rand institute... or I could just be making myself sound stupid.

Trevor Newman It just seems like objectivism is more of a personal interpretation. Mild objectivism is necessary to be successful in any area. Anything can become satanic in nature if not moderately interpreted. Ex. Christians that accept homosexuals. Chrstians that chant they will burn in hell in their sin for eternity.

Akira Brewer
Well mild Objectivism is just capitalism. Satanism actually does have those objectivist values that I was talking about. It's not my interpretation, I watched a documentary. Ayn Rand wasn't a Christian but she said that homosexuality was im...moral and disgusting. However, she also fought for gay rights. Objectivism means that you are taking your own objective and putting it above all other objectives and also the belief that that will help to advance society. She believed that everyone had the right to do whatever they wanted and to seek and indulge their pleasures however they saw fit. Which is why she was an advocate for gay rights even though she basically said she thought it was wrong. Much in the image of it is how Andrew Ryan let Jack kill him based on the orders of Fontaine even though he had spent his entire career in Rapture fighting Fontaine/Atlas.

Trevor Newman What I mean is objectivism is to basic a concept to be claimed by anyone. It's like someone pinning the meaning of life to one philosophy.
