Change is Inevitable : Except from a vending machine - Robert C. Gallagher

Here I sit in the student union of LSU [Louisiana State University] Its hard to imagine that in a mere matter of months this will be my new life, but I know deep in my heart that there is no question on the matter of it this being home. As I set out in stride across campus yesterday morning, the bell tower's rich, voice cried out above us. A southern welcome like no other. Each footstep I took would soon be retread a million times again over the course of the next four years. My heart swelled in my chest in only the way that a heart full of Tiger pride can. My new student ID sits proudly in my wallet ready to announce to the world that "I AM A LSU TIGER!" There are allot of changes in my future, some are fearful, some are painful, but some light my horizon with the hope of a bigger world. My heart cries out with an adventurous roar, calling out for more than a small town hole in the wall that rests on the parallel of common sense and reality. I am ready for this, so look out LSU. Look out world. Here I come.

Something on my small town heart... Hope4JM. A fight against drunk driving.

[Kyle and I before the crash. He was the drunk driver]

Its prom time again and like any teenage girl the night before her senior prom, I am absolutely ecstatic! But there is something on my heart... Yesterday I was involved in staging a mock car crash. One of my best friends portrayed the drunk driver. Two other friends and I played witnesses. Another close friend of mine was "Killed" and two others "Seriously injured" and even though I had help cover them in "Blood" (Ketchup) and seen them climb into those two totaled cars before our audience arrived, Seeing them there "Dead" Their "Mothers" and "Siblings" grieving? It hit hard. Having to imagine actually coming upon that scene and finding my dear ones like that, just tore my heart apart. Because I couldn't imagine it. See, most of us can't. We're young, We're Invincible, We're Teenagers. Nothing can touch us because "That sort of thing just doesn't happen to me" except the hard fact of life is that it CAN Happen to you, or us or me! And it did happen, to a boy who was loved and admired in our community, Because one man decided to get behind a wheel intoxicated. At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Monday, November 22, local emergency personnel responded to an accident involving a Ford Ranger pick up truck, driven by Jon Michael Williams - an 18 year old senior at Hammond High School. Jon-Mike has fought for his life and is coming out strong but it is no question that this was a life changing event. JM is a praised member of the community. Loved and admired by almost everyone. An athlete, friend, boyfriend and only son JM is a very important person to many people. He is 18 years old and in a nursing home because ONE PERSON made a mistake. I have never seen a community come together like ours has for JM. He is an inspiration. Driving while intoxicated has more victims than the ones involved in the accident. The lives of those peoples loved ones are forever altered. JM's mother, girlfriend, and friends are some of the most unimaginably strongest people I've ever seen. One person was all it took to almost end this boys life and one person is all it takes to prevent tragedies like this from happening. Driving while intoxicated is an almost inevitable tragedy so while we're out having fun and partying it up this prom season (or anytime) Lets remember JM, and all the other victims of tragedies like this one. Let's remember our own loved ones and their loved ones as well. Let's remember that we AREN'T invincible and this can happen to anyone. Don't drink and drive. Its not cool.

[Hope For JM. Donations can be made directly to the account set up at Hancock Bank under Jon Michael Williams' name, and questions can be directed to Jason King by calling 985-474-2444]

[Red Skies At Dawn formed in late August of 2008. Blessed with a line up of 6 talented teenagers, RSAD soon started playing shows around Southeast Louisiana. After receiving encouraging words and compliments from fans and friends, they progressed onward into recording demos and tracking their songs. Some of the bands they have currently played shows with are Demon Hunter, Sleeping Giant and Upon A Burning Body. Red Skies At Dawn is ready and willing to play any shows the Lord provides for them, and will take any opportunity to spread their faith and grow as brothers.]
While have to say, hardcore metal isnt quite the cup of tea for a girl who lives in a dream land of Jack Johnson and Mumford and Sons, I was taken back by how much I enjoyed this band! Im a fan, and if you're cool, you'll be too :)

A Hipsters Literary Response To :Boy and Egg: By Naomi Shihab Nye

[This is The Poem]

Boy and Egg
Every few minutes, he wants
to march the trail of flattened rye grass
back to the house of muttering
hens. He too could make
a bed in hay. Yesterday the egg so fresh
it felt hot in his hand and he pressed it
to his ear while the other children
laughed and ran with a ball, leaving him,
so little yet, too forgetful in games,
ready to cry if the ball brushed him,
riveted to the secret of birds
caught up inside his fist,
not ready to give it over
to the refrigerator
or the rest of the day.
[My Response]
The girl and her egg
Here I stand, seventeen going on eighteen, and facing my future. My little corner of the universe flutters with the wind. I am so small. I am merely the punctuation of one sentence, scribbled on a paper town, in a book that no ones read. I stretch myself, trying to fill the cracks of this Earth, but the abyss simply laughs. "Silly little girl" it mocks "Do you really think you can fill the shoes of significance?" I am young again, a baby whispering heartaches to her dolls. I cry out, wishing to be held again. Hoping to find comfort. All that I've loved crumbles to sand in my hands and begins to slip through my fingertips. I am terrified and my heart timidly calls out, afraid to disturb the silence. So where do I turn? What is the egg I softly cling to? I find peace in my words and solace in my songs. I sing out through my tears. Songs forgotten as soon as they leave my lips, send their melodies out to wrap around and hold me. These are the secrets that hide in my heart. They fall like the metaphorical tree in the forest, when no one is around to hear.

A hipsters weary heart...

Oh weary soul of mine
Please hush your sobbing now
This pain will fade in time
As much as you allow
Eyes tainted with the blood of your heart
Cut loose this useless annex
Its laceration shreds you to parts
Parts that once held swiftly
That moved you through the day
Deteriorate from the poison
Acidic there they lay
Your cries they leave me weakened
Exhaustion claims my lucidity
You dug your own grave darling
With your own frail hearts stupidity
Exemption shows no favor
To the devils trivial tools
Did you think that "Love" would save you
Sleeve singed with the trade mark of a fool
The river Styx don't love you
Water slipped right off your heart
Your Achilles tendon has destroyed you
You were ruined at the start

When The Hipsters Debate

[This is a follow up on my last post "When the hipsters contemplate selfishness..." and the discussion it sparked among two of my friends]

Trevor Newman I really liked this kudos

Akira Brewer Well, also, Jade, Objectivism, or its basic concept, is a part of Satanism. Not saying that Ayn Rand was a Satanist, but Satanists have the same philosophy. Also I certainly agree. We all certainly need those days or hours or minutes to be just by ourselves, but, like you said, we can't beat selflessness.
about an hour ago · LikeUnlike

Trevor Newman That depends on the objective of the objectivism. Having an objective is a basic concept in itself. It's more of the person that makes it good or bad. Based on Ayn's philosophy she seems a bit selfish though.

Akira Brewer No, dude. Objectivism is Ayn Rand's Philosophy; that every man and woman should serve only themselves and that that is the only way that society can advance (i.e. the Great Chain). She's just Andrew Ryan man. And it breaks my heart TToTT.

Trevor Newman So Satanists took it from Ayn Rand? I'm lost now.

Akira Brewer Satanists took it from Satan. Ayn Rand just happened to have that part of their philosophy in more detail as her philosophy. Plus I think that Satanism is more recent so yes it is possible that the guy who wrote the Satanist bible was part of the Ayn Rand institute... or I could just be making myself sound stupid.
38 minutes ago · LikeUnlike

Trevor Newman It just seems like objectivism is more of a personal interpretation. Mild objectivism is necessary to be successful in any area. Anything can become satanic in nature if not moderately interpreted. Ex. Christians that accept homosexuals. Chrstians that chant they will burn in hell in their sin for eternity.

Akira Brewer
Well mild Objectivism is just capitalism. Satanism actually does have those objectivist values that I was talking about. It's not my interpretation, I watched a documentary. Ayn Rand wasn't a Christian but she said that homosexuality was im...moral and disgusting. However, she also fought for gay rights. Objectivism means that you are taking your own objective and putting it above all other objectives and also the belief that that will help to advance society. She believed that everyone had the right to do whatever they wanted and to seek and indulge their pleasures however they saw fit. Which is why she was an advocate for gay rights even though she basically said she thought it was wrong. Much in the image of it is how Andrew Ryan let Jack kill him based on the orders of Fontaine even though he had spent his entire career in Rapture fighting Fontaine/Atlas.

Jade Bronte Patton Im highly ammused contnue on by all means. You both have great perception. Trevor, You make me smile lol

Trevor Newman What I mean is objectivism is to basic a concept to be claimed by anyone. It's like someone pinning the meaning of life to one philosophy.

Akira Brewer Also, I've been talking specifically about Ayn Rand's perception then.

Jade Bronte Patton Haha well Japan had a minor influence on the topic but mostly, in vain i must admitt, this profound thinking is the result of heart break
11 minutes ago · LikeUnlike

Jade Bronte Patton and Ayn Rand simply titled this philosophy objectivism

When the hipster contemplates selfishness..

When I stumbled upon Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivisim it was a philosophy I struggled to Understand. ["Man—every man—is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life." - Ayn Rand] To live for yourself and no one else? This, I hate to admit ,seemed like an appealing way of life. No heart break due to another no discomfort of your own. To focus only on ones self with complete disregard for humanity... With sudden realisation, a thud in my heart, the appeal slipped away with scales on my eyes and I knew deep in my heart that I found this sickening. A favorite comedian of mine recently said ["I'm no expert. Hell, I don't know what I'm doing with my life half the time. However, in the emails that I receive from advice seeking readers around the world, I recognize one constant: Inertia. One of the hardest things of all to do is alter your routine or dig yourself out of a rut. All I can recommend is that you spend one day being selfish. F*** what your friends or your boss or your parents say and just do what you want to do. I think you'll find out that looking out for number one is quite liberating. You can get allot done when you only care about yourself. Screw numbers two and up. You'll deal with them tomorrow." - Aaron Karo Ruminations # 187] That's hard logic to argue you with also. I think there is a line. As humble human beings I believe the only way to achieve peace is to be as selfless as possible. However, there is a time to look out for yourself. The world has a way of slipping out from under us. Its hard to find our bearings when we slam into that pavement, but doing the right thing is just that simple, right. Your heart will battle and your reason will crumble but in the end we all know what is truly the right thing to do. [Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility value others above yourself"] We're all broken people to some account but I believe the little broken pieces of all of us will make a beautiful technicolor stain glass world of no comparison. We just have to let go of ourselves a little to fit in place. ["Let us be the dream that dreamers dream" - Langston Hughes]

The Hipsters Walk A Fine Line Of Impossible

[Philippe Petit: To me, its really so simple, that life should be
lived on the edge. You have to exercise rebellion. To refuse to
tape yourself to the rules, to refuse your own success, to refuse
to repeat yourself, to see every day, every year, every idea as a
true challenge. Then you will live your life on the tightrope.] - Philippe Petit, The Man On A Wire

A Song For The Fellow Hipster

This is a song I wrote for a very very very dear friend of mine
Miss Hannah Elisabeth Monroe

Look at the skies above her head
Horizons made of pink and red
The sunsets far but time flies By
She'll take a breath You ll hear her sigh
And Sing, Sing Hannah's Lullaby

Oh My goodness Oh My Gracious
All these people all these faces
They Take A Hit They Blow A kiss
Aim at the heart and never miss
But You'll Survive
To Sing, Sing Hannah's Lullaby

Now Say Your Prayers Now Cry Your Tears
You ll kiss The Moon You ll Face Your Fears
The time has come, To learn to fly
and you wont fall if you close your eyes
and Sing Sing Hannah's lullaby

Your heart is frail but you aren't weak
Just take some time and find your strength
and if you find its hard to find
just take your time, Just take your time
and Sing Sing Hannah's Lullaby

You re beautiful I do concur
Its just not fair to all us girls
that only one has so much charm
you'll do a poor boys heart some harm
and he'll sing sing Hannah's lullaby
Hannah he'll sing he'll sing your lullaby

When This Small Town Hipster Girl Writes Another Poem :)

Lets Me and You,
Be like the America,
Of Mr. Langston Hughes
Lets Me and You
Be the Dream the Dreamers Dream
Let the oxymorons praise us
For making so much nonsense
With imperfect perfection
Let my words surrender
To the speechlessness
That true love beckons
Let me write your name in my diary
With jet black ink
On a blank page
Forever and Ever it will remain
The Beginning, Middle, and End
Of my story

In a small town friends are everything (even for the hipsters)

I'll admit it, As much as my friends drive me crazy, as silly and trivial as I sometimes find them, I love them to pieces. So here is the Break down on the wonderful friends I love so much. I'll start with the girls.

[Friend 1S] Has been my friend the longest. Shes a Gorgeous, Tall, Blond, Leggy, Wonder! Her sarcasm could be sliced with a knife and her humor is easily misunderstood but deep down shes is a warmhearted mess that you cant help but love.

[Friend 1SE] Is the baby of my friends. Shes sweet silly and spastic. Ive adored her from the very moment I met her. Being 3 years younger than us doesn't keep her from keeping up with our crazy antics. She reminds us too stay young and is one of the strongest, most put together person I've ever met.

[Friend 1G] Is a Loon! Shes Loud, Crazy, and not afraid to make a scene! She can make you fume like you weren't aware you could, and is frustrating to no end but shes an amazing listener and her true friends know that under that cynical shell she loves us just as much as we love her and Shes every bit worth it.

[Friend 1T] Has an Attitude that kicks...Hard. She's allot to handle and a little high strung but she isn't so different on the inside and when she lets loose shes one of the most empathetic people you'll ever meet all in all I love her.

[Friend 1L] Is a Ditsy Blond to The T. 100% Unique. Shes a total tomboy. The only Hunter I know who is also a Vegetarian. Her 3rd grade sweetheart holds the key to her heart and has stolen her away from us, but you wont find a more genuine love. Her Loud Clothes, Mismatched Socks, and Abundantly Colored Converse Collection speak for her well. With Brains and Beauty shes a package.

[Friend 1C] And I have had our many ups and downs. Her Character is Blunt and She Is Complex as they come but She is a loyal friend and true genius. Talent and perception run through her veins.

[Friend 1H] Is my newest Friend. She is elegant and poised. Her Beauty and talent rains down in everything she does. All though she is my newest friend, Shes is the most cherished I strive to achieve her vision. She is a constant amazement and I am blessed to have her in my life.
Each of my girlfriends is completely her own person but each of them holds a special place in my heart. I'll always remember karaoke, study sessions at the library, all nighters with the red box, dances and dinners and parties and such. I love these girls :)
